Briefing Profiles of Canton Fair
China Import and Export Fair, also known as the Canton Fair, is held biannually in Guangzhou every spring and autumn, with a history of 57 years since 1957. The Fair is a comprehensive one with the longest history, the highest level, the largest scale, the most complete exhibit variety, the broadest distribution of overseas buyers and the greatest business turnover in China.
Canton Fair attracts more than 24,000 China's best foreign trade companies with good credibility and sound financial capabilities, and 500 overseas companies to participate in the Fair.
Canton Fair is a platform for import and export mainly, with various and flexible patterns of trade. Beside traditional way of negotiating against samples, the Fair holds Canton Fair Online. Various types of business activities such as economic and technical cooperations and exchanges, commodity inspection, insurance, transportation, advertising, consultation, etc, are also carried out in flexible ways. Business people from all over the world are gathering in Guangzhou, exchanging business information and developing friendship.

Message from Secretary General of China Import and Export Fair
China Import and Export Fair (also renowned as Canton Fair) was inaugurated in spring 1957. It is co-hosted biannually by the Ministry of Commerce of PRC and the People's Government of Guangdong Province in Guangzhou, every spring and autumn. Canton Fair, with a successful operation of 114 sessions in the past 57 years, has recorded the development of China’s foreign trade, and witnessed friendly political, economic and cultural exchanges between China and the outside world.
 
For over half a century, support and trust from loyal overseas buyers and excellent Chinese exhibitors are our precious treasure and lifeline. To better serve China’s foreign trade is our motive, which constantly develops Canton Fair. Up to the 114th session, the accumulated export volume has amounted to about USD 1.0623 trillion and the total number of overseas buyers has reached 6.72 million. The exhibition area of one session totals 1.16 million square meters and the number of exhibitors from home and abroad increases to more than 24,000. The Fair ranks the top in the world in terms of the scale for a single exhibition, and it is a comprehensive international trading event with the longest history, the largest scale, the most complete exhibit variety, the largest buyer attendance, the broadest distribution of buyers’ origin and the greatest business turnover in China.
 
To strike a balance between China’s import and export, Canton Fair, from the 101st session, inaugurated the International Pavilion, the exhibition area of which has now amounted to 20,000 square meters. The Fair endeavors to increase customer satisfaction degree and builds a “One-Stop” service platform. Customer Call Centre was set up in the 108th session and Canton Fair Product Design and Trade Promotion Centre (PDC) was initiated in the 109th session. PDC bridges overseas design institutes and domestic suppliers for them to cooperate on product design and upgrading. During the 114th session, PDC activities were held in all three phases and Area A, B and C, with a larger scale and more professional forums and business matching-making activities. Canton Fair E-commerce Platform was launched in the 113th session, aimed at becoming a credible national brand of e-commerce. Based on Canton Fair, the E-commerce Platform will drive China’s trade growth via its own development. Meanwhile, Canton Fair provides tailored value-added services to buyers and exhibitors, and improves its e-commerce and information technology. With the goal of building a service brand and an integrated and efficient complex operation system, the Fair keeps improving the quality of on-site service. Since 2012, Canton Fair followed China’s policy on low carbon development and environmental protection. The Fair issued various measures to develop a green complex and a green fair; thus leading China’s exhibition industry in building ecological civilization. Also, Canton Fair has been improving its information technology to establish a “Smart Canton Fair”.
 
Currently, both the international and domestic environment are complicated and challenging. As a leading fair in China’s exhibition industry, Canton Fair faces valuable opportunities and severe challenges. In the future, China Foreign Trade Centre will focus on the big picture of foreign trade development, innovate the concept of organizing exhibitions, and improve exhibition quality. We will grow Canton Fair into a market-oriented brand and a professional fair with distinctive feature and global influence. We will also standardize legal practices of the Fair. With quality services, Canton Fair will promote world trade growth and economic and social development.
